ACADEMY LIFE

WHAT TO EXPECT

Rather than send our new officers to the state training facility, the Broken Arrow Police Department instructs its own academy at our training facility right here in Broken Arrow! This allows us to expand on the minimum subjects of law enforcement and cater to the uniqueness of Broken Arrow’s culture and procedures.

The Broken Arrow Police Academy consists of over one thousand hours of training for our new recruits. This is double the hours of the state academy which is fourteen weeks.

FIREARMS

The Broken Arrow Police Department has a talented group of in-house firearms instructors that instruct both in our academy and our continuing education firearms courses. The academy has a firearms range on site which enables us to incorporate firearms skills all throughout the academy. Our firearms program incorporates a wide array of core courses that go above and beyond a basic academy.

DEFENSIVE TACTICS

The Broken Arrow Police Department utilizes our own defensive tactics instructors. Each instructor has at a minimum of 7 years of experience as an instructor combined with external training in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. These skills are incorporated into our defensive tactics program which works congruently with use of force, decision making, less lethal, and lethal options. Physical and defensive skills are built upon throughout the six-month academy

LEDT

The Broken Arrow Police Department has our own cadre of defensive driving instructors. This functional core area instructs all recruits in the knowledge of desirable law enforcement driving behaviors and skills unique to handling a vehicle in emergency, pursuit, and non-emergency situations.
