BROKEN ARROW POLICE

BICYCLE UNIT

The BAPD Bicycle Patrol Program exists for the purpose of training, equipping, and deploying Broken Arrow Police Officers in a highly effective and versatile manner to address our community’s law enforcement needs. These needs may take the form of criminal interdiction, crime deterrence through visible presence, enhancing community-police relations, education, and/or a host of other specialized missions.
The bicycle patrol unit works a variety of functions where officers must have a smaller footprint than a patrol vehicle but remain mobile and highly visible.
Bicycle officers must be:
-
Highly motivated
-
Physically fit
-
Willing to ride in all weather conditions
-
community oriented
-
creative problem solvers
-
Tactically sound
-
Able to work on a dynamic platform
Currently the Bicycle patrol unit consists of 18 officers and 3 reserve officers. They patrol for special events, parades, high crime areas, sporting events and recreational areas.
