The team assists with hostage situations, armed and barricaded, and suicidal subjects. The goal is to attempt to ensure the safe recovery of all hostages or victims, safety and well-being of personnel involved as well as the safe apprehension of the suspect. The current team consists of (9) law enforcement negotiators and one mental health professional and is equipped with the latest technology to increase the efficiency of the unit and fulfilling the needs of the law enforcement community.

The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) was established in 1986, formally known as Hostage Negotiations Team (HNT).  The primary function of the Crisis Negotiation Team is to attempt a peaceful resolution to crisis situations by use of dialogue utilizing empathy and active listening skills.
