Unmanned Aircraft System- (Drone) Unit
The UAS Unit assists the department by providing increased situational awareness and enhances officer safety.
The unit consists of seven officers. Officers spend several months studying for their pilot license testing. After obtaining their license, the pilot officers must log 100 hours a year in flight time.
UAS is technology that enhances our service to the community. UAS have been utilized for missing persons search and rescue, surveying storm damage, and large city events. UAS also offer safety for officers. The police can now have eyes on a situation without being put in harms way.
The UAS Unit also assists other agencies in our area including county sheriff’s, state, and federal agencies.
